Small spaces require especially thoughtful decisions.
We help homeowners plan, design, and document ADUs and JADUs across a range of project types, including garage conversions, attached ADUs, detached ADUs, lower-level conversions, guest units, and accessory structures.
An ADU can support family, guests, rental income, aging parents, adult children, caretakers, remote work, or long-term property value. But it has to work hard, meet local requirements, and make sense on the property.
These projects often involve tight footprints, existing conditions, parking, privacy, utilities, access, fire separation, energy requirements, and jurisdiction-specific rules.
The goal is a compact, useful, permit-ready living space shaped around the property, the rules, and the people it is meant to serve.

600SF ADU SECTION
An ADU is small by definition, but that does not make it simple.
In a compact footprint, every decision matters: entry, privacy, storage, kitchen layout, bathroom planning, natural light, utilities, parking, fire separation, sound, outdoor space, and how the unit relates to the main residence.
Good ADU design is not about squeezing in the most square footage. It is about making the available space live well.

DETACHED ADU GARAGE CONVERSION NAPA
Garage conversions can be a practical path to creating an ADU, but they require careful review.
Existing structure, slab conditions, ceiling heights, insulation, fire separation, utilities, drainage, parking, windows, access, and local requirements all need to be understood before the design moves too far.
The opportunity is real, but the existing building has to be respected.
DETACHED ADU TRUCKEE
Attached and detached ADUs each come with different opportunities and constraints.
An attached ADU may allow more efficient use of existing utilities, structure, or circulation. A detached ADU may offer more privacy, flexibility, and separation from the main residence.
The better choice depends on the site, the rules, the budget, and the way the unit will actually be used.

LOWER LEVEL ADU CONVERSION NAPA
Lower-level ADU conversions can make intelligent use of space that already exists.
The design challenge is usually about access, light, privacy, ceiling height, fire separation, utilities, comfort, and creating a living space that feels intentional rather than leftover.
When done well, a lower-level conversion can give a home more flexibility without dramatically changing its exterior footprint.
